Early this morning, Thailand circulated false news alleging that Cambodian soldiers stationed at Hat Noi, Koh Kong, across from the Thai coastal province of Trat, were preparing to deploy machine guns aimed at Thai forces. In response, the Chanthaburi-Trat Border Defence Forces expanded martial law enforcement in the area. The Royal Thai Navy marines were also placed on high alert, with equipment and troops ready for any heavy weapons fire or assault from Cambodia.
Coincidentally, later in the day, Thailand issued an alert for a possible tsunami. This raises pressing questions: Is the tsunami warning a strategic decoy to justify potential maritime aggression against Cambodia, or is it the magic of the oceans (e.g. Lork Yey Mov or លោកយាយម៉ៅ) punish the Ceasefire Crook. As of now, there is no sign of any tsunami, deepening suspicion about Thailand’s true intentions.
The deeper issue is that these warnings may not be about safety at all, but rather a form of psychological warfare. By fabricating threats and spreading fear, Thailand can distract Cambodia’s military focus while this morning Thailand started its attacks in provinces far from the conflict zone. Such tactics are not the behavior of a nation seeking peace but of one leveraging misinformation to advance its own agenda.
